Greenvolt Group inaugurated a 99MW/288MWh battery storage investment on the outskirts of Buj (NE Hungary) on Wednesday.
Greenvolt's project companies were awarded a combined HUF 11.3 billion in grant money for the investment.
Greenvolt Group CEO Joao Manso Neto said the investment had raised the business's battery storage capacity in Hungary to 135MW, complemented with 158MW of solar capacity. He added that another battery storage project, Greenvolt's third in Hungary, would launch in weeks.
MAVIR, Hungary's transmission system operator, spent around HUF 700 million to upgrade the substation at Buj parallel with the battery storage investment, deputy-CEO Gergo Batta said.
Andras Toth, the state secretary for energy, said around EUR 1.5 billion in funding from the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility would be ploughed into grid upgrades in the coming years, paving the way for the addition of another 5,000 MW of renewables capacity.
