The number of patent applications filed in Hungary climbed 17% in 2024, well over the 4.9% global increase, the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO) said on Monday, citing the latest World Intellectual Property Indicators report.
The global leaders in patent applications were China, the United States, Japan and South Korea, according to the report.
According to the announcement, the 17% increase indicates growing confidence in intellectual capital. There was a 9% increase in applications for utility model protection in Hungary, while the global average was only 0.3%. In 2024, trademarks containing almost 16,000 classes were registered for Hungarian inventors, which is also a 44% increase and shows that domestic companies are building their brands more consciously, HIPO highlighted.
