Hungarian students die in Italy bus accident

16 people, most of them grammar school students from Budapest, have died in a bus accident on the motorway near Verona, Italy Friday night. The bus first hit the motorway barrier and crashed into the pillar of a flyover, followed by a fire on board.

According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, one person in a critical condition is being kept in an artificially induced coma, two persons are severely injured, ten persons have serious injuries, while thirteen have light injuries. Twelve people survived the accident without injuries.

The Hungarian government has declared Monday, January 23, a national day of mourning.
