Hungarian students took home gold, silver and bronze medals from the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan between July 10 and 19, Gábor Magyarfalvi, assistant professor and team leader told MTI.
This year, 364 high school students from 92 countries participated in the event.
János Elek, a student of Radnóti Miklos Secondary School in Szeged (teacher: Péter Csuri), won a gold medal.
Artúr Bíró, a student of ELTE Apáczai Secondary School in Budapest (teachers: Bence Varga, Attila Villányi), won a silver medal.
Dániel János Simon, also of Apáczai, (teachers: Bence Varga, Attila Villányi) and Péter Muraközi, a student of Czuczor Gergely Secondary School in Győr (teacher: Zsolt János Molnár), both won bronze medals.
The selection and preparation of the Hungarian team was organized by the Institute of Chemistry of the Eötvös Lóránd University in Budapest.
