The 54th Kékszalag (‘Blue Ribbon’) Raiffeisen Grand Prix will start on July 14, 2022. The Hungarian Sailing Federation is expecting more participants than ever before in Europe's largest and most popular around-the-lake sailing race. This year's regatta will be a multi-day sailing celebration, with exhibitors, shore programs and a giant projector in Balatonfüred.
This year's Blue Ribbon Festival starts the weekend before the race, on July 9, with the White Ribbon GeneralCom Grand Prix sailing race, which is the dress rehearsal for the Blue Ribbon. On the following day, youth athletes will compete in a spectacular contest on the water in front of the Balatonfüred Grand Pier, in the ‘Kék pántlika’ (‘Blue strap’) race.
The Blue Ribbon competitors will have forty-eight hours to cover the 155 kilometers on the traditional Balatonfüred-Balatonkenese-Siófok-Tihany-Keszthely-Balatonfüred route.
"The Kékszalag is more than just a sailing race, it is a celebration of Lake Balaton, which has an impact on tourism and sporting life in the entire Balaton region. This year, all sailing lovers and those interested in sailing can finally meet each other without any constraints, and not in the shadow of Covid," the Secretary General of the Hungarian Sailing Federation András Holczhauser pointed out when welcoming the participants of the Grand Prix in Budapest at the press conference. He added that "this is the biggest sailing race in Hungary, where innovation meets innovation, as the most modern technology is also on the water, and tradition, as classic boats with a long history are also on the starting line.”
The CEO of Raiffeisen Bank Plc., György Zolnai highlighted that they are also delighted to support the 54th Blue Ribbon, “as the event and Raiffeisen Bank share the same values and we are committed to innovation, competition, sustainability and digitalization. Both Kékszalag and Raiffeisen Bank are at the forefront of these. We are honored to partner with the biggest event in Hungarian sailing. Last year, the race was decided in the last minutes, and I am confident that this year's race will be very exciting for the spectators."
Gábor Szántó, CEO of Eronforesty, considers it an important step forward that they have joined the sustainability coalition established this year. "We are making a huge commitment, planting a tree for every boat that enters the Blue Ribbon within the framework of the national program, which means that we are enriching Hungary's beautiful landscapes with hundreds of trees and giving something back to nature," he said.
