Hungarian Nobel Laurate Katalin Karikó has been selected Forbes magazine as one of the top 250 innovators who "best embody the creative spirit." She is on place 169 on the list prepared to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
According to Forbes, those on the list "aren't just inventors; they're business leaders who bring their breakthroughs to market, transforming entire industries and create new ones."
The list, compiled by Forbes journalists, is topped by Elon Musk, owner of Tesla, SpaceX, and Neuralink, followed by Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, and Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft.
The top ten also includes filmmaker George Lucas, Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, Sam Altman, head of Open AI, Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, Martine Rothblatt, creator of SiriusXM, media mogul Ted Turner, and Vinod Khosla, co-founder of Sun Microsystems.
Katalin Karikó ranked 169th on the list. The scientist, who has lived in the United States for decades, received the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (with Drew Weisman) for their discoveries related to nucleoside modifications, which enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against Covid-19.
