Danish toymaker Lego will start construction of an 80,000-sqm plant in Nyíregyháza, NE Hungary this summer, according to, the general manager and vice-president of Lego Manufacturing Ltd., Lego’s Hungarian subsidiary.

Jens Peter Clausen has signed an agreement on the project with the Nyíregyháza mayor Ferenc Kovács. The EUR 125 million facility is planned to be completed by 2014 and employ around 1,550 people during peak periods. They will be involved in molding, decorating and packaging work in the new plant

He added that Lego has a long-term commitment in Nyiregyhaza, noting that the company was in the process of buying 100 hectares of land that allows expansion after 2014.
