The Balaton Sound and VOLT festivals will not be held this year either, the two events will return in 2022, according to the organizer Sziget Press Office's announcement on Thursday.
The news is no big surprise, as the organizers also indicate, in canceling big concerts and festivals all over Europe in a row because the end of the coronavirus epidemic cabbot yet be seen. There are still some festival organizers who are confident that some of the planned events can take place in some form at the end of the summer, but it is now certain that the VOLT and Balaton Sound festivals will be postponed to 2022.
Norbert Lobenwein, founder of VOLT, said that now, in the middle of the third wave of the epidemic, they don’t even see when the campaign, ticket sales, could be launched at all, making it impossible to safely run a big festival in early summer. They managed to prepare this year’s line-up much earlier than usual, yet, they didn’t even have a chance to announce the 2021 stars.
Zoltán Fülöp, the festival director of Sound, said that they do not yet see the reality that by the middle of the summer, international tourism traffic will resume across Europe to such an extent that the festival can be held.
The organizers wrote that, of course, in the case of both festivals, they thought to look for an alternative date at the end of the summer, but in the end, they decided not to do so.
