Martonyi calls for EU unity to be preserved

Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi called for the preservation of European Union unity at a roundtable meeting in Brussels organised by the Friends of Europe think-tank on Thursday. Hungary supports "more Europe" but clearly rejects "more than one Europe," he said.

János Martonyi, however, warned member states against building a 'firewall' within the bloc. Commenting on the issue of Europe's democratic deficit, Martonyi said this had been talked about for years and the current European system was not perfect. Nevertheless, even the current basic treaty enables various solutions, he added.
