The daily heat record in Hungary was broken again on Friday, with almost 40 degrees Celsius recorded in Bács-Kiskun county, the National Meteorological Service (OMSZ) reported.
According to OMSZ, based on preliminary data, the national heat record for August 19 was broken with 39.6 degrees Celsius in Baja, south-central Hungary. The Budapest heat record was also broken, with 38.2 degrees Celsius recorded in the northern district of Újpest.
On Wednesday this week, the daily heat record was also broken. In Baja and in Kübekháza, SE Hungary, temperatures reached 37 degrees in the afternoon.
The meteorological service has already repeatedly warned of the arrival of a cold front with heavy showers. Showers, thunderstorms and rain are likely to continue to occur in large numbers in the lowlands and central parts of the country. In places, strong gusty winds may occur in the vicinity of thunderstorms.
