The number of new passenger car registrations in Hungary rose 6.4% to 129,440 in 2025, data compiled by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) show.
Hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles accounted for 56% of sales, cars with petrol engines made up 24% and vehicles with diesel engines 11%. Fully-electric vehicles accounted for almost 9% of sales.
Sales of battery electric vehicles rose 28.5% to 11,002 during the period.
In the European Union, new car sales grew by 1.8% last year, rising to 10.822 million from 10.631 million in 2024.
Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased by 29.9% to 1.88 million, accounting for 17.4% of sales, up from 13.6% a year earlier.
