In the presence of the President of the Republic, Katalin Novák and the Commander of the Hungarian Defense Forces, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, the national flag was raised and lowered to half-mast on the anniversary of the invasion of the Soviet troops and the start of the crushing of the 1956 Revolution on Friday, in front of the Parliament, in Kossuth Lajos Square.
As an expression of respect, the flag of Hungary will remain at half-mast all day on the day of national mourning.
The national flag was raised and lowered to half-mast by the soldiers of the 32nd National Defence Regiment, accompanied by the National Anthem and the national poem, the Oration. The ceremony was also attended by the Central Orchestra of the Hungarian Defence Forces, the National Equestrian Unit and the Hungarian Hussars Unit.
