There have been reports of a steep rise in the number of infections in recent weeks, but last week's figures show that the epidemic is slowing down again in Hungary. This week's figures confirm this trend. The sad news is that the number of deaths from coronavirus infection in this country has passed the 47,000 mark.
According to the aggregated data published on the related government website koronavirus.gov.hu on Wednesday, 16,249 new infections were confirmed last week; 117 patients died; and the number of active infections is 50,543.
There are currently 570 patients with coronavirus infection in hospital (meaning that the number of people requiring hospitalization has fallen by almost a third in a week), nine of whom are on ventilators. Since the beginning of the epidemic, the number of people identified as infected has risen to 2,021,648, while the number of deaths has risen to 47,083.
The vaccination rate has been stagnant for a long time. The total number of vaccinated persons is 6,415,177, of whom 6,201,472 are on their second vaccination, 3,892,097 on their third and 328,722 on their fourth.
