A 60-year-old man with high blood pressure and tumor is the 30,000th on the list of COVID-19 victims in Hungary. With another four people passing away in the past 24 hours, the death toll is now 30,004.
As telex.hu notes, it is more accurate to say that since March last year, 30,000 people have died with the coronavirus in their bodies.
The number of cured persons is steadily increasing, currently 740,790, and the number of active infected persons has decreased to 37,599. 72 patients with coronavirus are in hospital, 13 of whom are on ventilators.
The daily number of new cases in Hungary rose again from 2,000 at the end of February to over 4,000 in a matter of days, with the number of new deaths per day almost continuously above 100 from 18 February and 200 from 18 March – twice exceeding 300, index.hu points out.
On April 7, 311 more Hungarians died from the new coronavirus infection – more than ever before in one day. The daily death rate was 24.7 new deaths per million, which meant that Hungary was already the leading country in world statistics in the per million death rate.
While the Russian Sputnik V and the Chinese Sinopharm vaccines (none of them authorized by the European Medicines Agency) put Hungary in the lead in vaccination coverage, for weeks from March until the beginning of May, Hungary was also the leader in another statistical indicator among countries with a population of over one million: the daily new death rate per million.
As of 7 July, only of Peru was ahead of Hungary in the number of COVID-19 deaths per million (5,876). This figure for Hungary is 3105.
