A total of 33,716 new infections were confirmed over the weekend (Friday to Sunday) in Hungary, bringing the total number of identified infections to 1,650,562 since the beginning of the epidemic, the government information portal said.
In the past three days, 234 patients have died, bringing the official total number of deaths to 41,975.
The number of cured persons is now 1,377,097 and the number of active infected persons is 231,490.
4,919 patients with coronavirus are hospitalised, 168 of whom are on ventilators. The number of people hospitalised rose by 331 over the weekend.
The number of vaccinated persons is 6,374,293, of whom 6,120,914 have already received their second vaccination and 3,735,329 have already received their confirmatory third vaccination.
A week ago, the previous weekend, an average of 15,135 new infections per day were recorded, with 58 deaths per day. 3,903 were hospitalised and 150 required invasive ventilation.
The omicron variant now accounts for 94% of coronavirus infections in Hungary, with delta now only 6% and the omicron sub variant BA.2 has also appeared.
