MÁV Hungarians Railways regularly organizes retro weekends where passengers can feel what the defining travel experience was like in the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s. This year's first retro weekend takes place in the Hatvan area, east of Budapest.
In addition to the popular lines in the Lake Balaton area, new locations include lines around the town of Hatvan and the city Pécs (southern Hungary) featuring trains vintage trains running on several railway lines evoking the atmosphere of the old days.
Once again, people can travel in a classic, wooden-paneled coach with a pull-down window, or in a comfort carriage with swivel seats. Passengers can enjoy old locomotives and matching passenger coaches, as well as a chance to sample the food and drink of the old times.
In addition to local passenger trains, there are some old-time express and InterCity trains, as well as retro dining cars from the early 1990s. This year, vehicles featured include types not seen at previous events, such as the V42 Leo and the BDVmot.
