The chocolate factory in Szerencs, NE Hungary celebrates its 100th anniversary. The centenary is celebrated in several stages in the town.
In honor of the anniversary, one of the factory's iconic sweets, the cat's tongue, will also appear on a stamp. He added that thirty-six stampable sheets of the cat's tongue-shaped adhesive stamp have been issued, mixed with milk and dark chocolate colors.
Magyar Posta will issue 36,000 commemorative stamps, and 6,000 chocolate-flavored stamps will also be issued.
István Takács, managing director of Szerencs Bonbon Ltd., pointed out that the products of the chocolate factory, established in 1923, were sold in the United States after only two years of operation. He added that in addition to the production of traditional products, the company now also produces diabetic and sugar-free sweets, as well as bark-molded figures.
The managing director said that the company's mission from the beginning was to save the recipes of Szerencs sweets for posterity, and called the centenary and the stamps issued a milestone in the life of the factory.
Other activities for the centenary include an exhibition in the local castle on 100 years of chocolate, the publication of a book on the history of chocolate and the Arthur Days Festival, named after the chocolate-loving cartoon character, Arthur, between August 25 and 27.
