As an annual tradition, the 'Christmas tree of the country' has been set up in front of the building of Hungarian Parliament on Kossuth Square.

The pine tree weighing four tons was cut down in Székesfehérvár, SW of Budapest, by the local fire brigade and transported to the capital on a special military vehicle.

The tree had been cut down in the garden of Imre Molnár and it was his family's idea to make the offer. Via the internet, they presented photos of the tree to the authorities and won the favor of the decision makers.

The owner called it a great honor that the tree from the yard of their house will be the Christmas tree of the country. He noted that the previous owner of the property planted the now 15 meters high tree forty years ago.
