Wizz Air will be the official carrier of the Hungarian team to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, according to a cooperation agreement signed on Wednesday between the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB) and the airline.
At the press conference held on the occasion of the ceremony, the agreement was signed by Wizz Air CEO József Váradi and MOB President Zsolt Gyulay.
Prior to the signing ceremony, Zsolt Gyulay stressed that the MOB had negotiated with several airlines and that Wizz Air was by far the best offer, providing the most convenient solution for the athletes.
"We have done our utmost to ensure that we have a structure that will ensure that athletes can travel to the Olympics comfortably at any time, at any period," Zsolt Gyulay saidy. "There should be a separate desk, there should be no problem with excess weight, there shouldn't be a long wait at the airport and we should land at an accredited airport from where the transfer to the Olympic village is easy and convenient."
The MOB chief thanked Wizz Air for its support, while noting that the European venue is expected to attract many Hungarian fans to the Games and that the current agreement will make their travel much easier.
József Váradi said that the company wanted to support Hungarian athletes and the Olympic movement and wanted to become an official supplier. He added that during the Games they would try to be as flexible as possible to accommodate the needs of Hungarian athletes, so that travel would not be a problem for them and they could concentrate all their energy on their competitions.
"We plan to launch a special shuttle service at the end of the event. We call it the gold machine, so we hope it will come back with a lot of gold medals. But whatever medal it comes back with, we will try to provide it for you with great love," József Váradi told the Olympians present at the press conference, indicating that they would like to decorate the gold machine in a fitting way. The CEO also said that during the Olympics they will be landing at Paris Orly airport and flying in their latest aircraft.
