More than ever, 38 coronavirus-infected patients have died in Hungary in the last 24 hours, bringing their number to 1,211.
"We are facing a difficult period,” the country's chief medical officer Cecília Müller is quoted by telex.hu from a press conference, acknowledging that the number of fatalities and the rate of spread of the virus have greatly increased.
989 new infections had been recorded during the previous day, with the number of active infections currently at 32,909. 9651 tests were performed in 24 hours, with one in six positive, an increasing rate, indicating an accelerating spread of infection despite the fact that many infections may be excluded from the statistics due to limitations in test capacity.
There are currently 1,960 patients hospitalized with the coronavirus, 197 of whom are on ventilators.
