Based on the interior design concept of este'r partners, Zazie Bistro & Bar's interior design solutions have not only captivated the domestic public, but have also attracted the attention of the international architectural profession. As the winner of the Winner category of the BigSEE Ljubljana International Design Awards, Budapest's new flagship restaurant has the opportunity to compete with the best Central European architecture and interior design.
The BigSEE Architecture Award is a highly prestigious architectural award, which aims to showcase and recognise excellence in architecture, interior design and the creative industries. Innovation, sustainability, originality, social awareness and, of course, functionality are the main criteria for the jury. And Zazie Bistro&Bar recently won the Winner category at the BigSEE Ljubljana International Design Awards, which will allow the design team to present the project in person at Design Week Ljubljana, where the jury will award the best architecture and interior design in Central Europe.
Designed by Eszter Radnóczy, founder of the interior design firm este'r partners, the space on the ground floor of the MOL Campus has quickly become a local favourite under the guidance of chef Dániel Bíró. Not only the food, but also the atmosphere of the place, which offers a real experience of flowing rivers, was a bonus, as nowhere else in Budapest can you find a restaurant where you can experience the Danube like this. The smoothness of its spaces is influenced by the flow of the river, which can also be seen from the glass surface of the building that houses the restaurant. The interior design team has also focused on this. The entire interior wall, which undulates parallel to the outer glass shell, is made up of a very special fired lattice decorative brick, the effect of which is enhanced by the undulation of the textiles floating on the ceiling above the large, flowing, curved wall.
The main idea behind the project was to combine the contemporary, urban attitude of the MOL Campus building with natural elements, which are already strongly present through the windows of the MOL Campus and are given space in every room of the bistro: in the café, you can literally hug a tree, and in the small bays of the lounge you can relax surrounded by comfortable sofas, woven lamps and natural materials.
"Our inspiration for the restaurant's interior was rowing on the Danube: the experience of the river flowing beneath you at a calming pace, of entering the reeds and discovering new little worlds everywhere. We wanted to translate that into the language of design with a space that gives you a sense of calm, comfort and yet exhilaration, depending on what time of day you arrive," Eszter Radnóczy, interior designer and lead designer says.
The design team is not stopping after Design Week Ljubljana, as they have also entered Zazie in the London Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, which showcases the world's most creative spaces.
