The President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping was received with a military ceremony by Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok and members of the Hungarian government at Buda Castle on Thursday.
The Chinese head of state and his entourage, who are on a state visit to Hungary until Friday to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, headed to the Sándor Palace after the military ceremony, where Tamás Sulyok received the Chinese president on an official visit.
At the plenary meeting, the parties agreed that good political relations continue to provide a strong and solid foundation for the expansion of economic, trade, investment and people-to-people ties.
According to the Chinese president, mutual respect and trust are the basis of cooperation between the two countries.
The Hungarian president said that Hungary sees East-West cooperation not as a threat but as an opportunity, and therefore Hungary remains ready to be a bridge between East and West. The Chinese president was received by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as well. At the meeting, Xi Jinping said that it is now that the relationship between the two countries is the best in history. The prime minister pointed out that the value of trade between the two countries had risen from USD 3 billion to USD 12 billion in 20 years, seven major Chinese cities could be reached directly by air from Budapest instead of one, and that Chinese investment in Hungary currently stands at HUF 6,400 billion.
