The names and details of tens of thousands of Communist-era informants have been made public, with the documents now available in Hungary on the nyitottaktak.hu website.
Three of the several types of secret service documents have now been made freely available to the public: the so-called "No. 6" files, the "B" (i.e. recruitment) logs and the "H" (i.e. network) database.
File No. 6 is a network agent’s registration form, with the informant's personal identification details on the front and the most important information relating to their activities on the back. The B logs list the names of agents in the recruitment files. The H database, compiled on magnetic tape from the 1970s onwards, also recorded the informants' personal details and code names.
The fourth type of document, which the archives are required by law to make public by February 25, is the B-file which contains the detailed account of the agent’s entire career from the perspective of their case officer.
