Hungarian government cabinet chief Antal Rogán has announced that the government proposes to parliament to revoke the law, enacted on March 14, that banned stores of over 200 sq meters from opening on Sunday in the country.

The Sunday shopping ban has been highly unpopular and Minister Rogán now claimed that the decision is due the fact thet governmnet "is listening to the people"

Opposition parties claim the government simply backed off because it is afraid that a referendum on the issue, inistiated by the opposition Socialists, would be a spectacular fiasco for the governing Fidesz party of PM Viktor Orbán.
