May 29, 2014

According to a coomunqué by the Prime Minister's Office, PM Viktor Orbán announced the names of his candidates for ministers of his next government in a letter sent to the Speaker of Parliament. Except for three people, the list includes same names as the previous government.

Keeping their position in the new cabinet as well are Zsolt Semjén as minister without portfolio, Sándor Pintér as Minister of Interior, Zoltán Balog as Minister of Human Resources, Sándor Fazekas as Minister of Agriculture, Csaba Hende as Minister of Defence, Mihály Varga as Minister of National Economy and János Lázár as Minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office.

The previous Minister of Justice Tibor Navracsics will now be Minister of Foreign and External Economic Affairs, while the two new members are Miklós Seszták as Minister of National Development and László Trócsányi Minister of Justice.

Ministerial candidates are formally appointed by the President of Hungary.

Opposition politicians have criticized the government structure for having giant ministries in which important areas like culture or healthcare are not given enough emphasis.
