The prime ministerial candidate of the opposition parties running with joint candidates in the April 3 parliamentary elections, Péter Márki-Zay expressed his belief in Hungary's return to the "good side of history" at a rally held on the occasion of the March 15 national holiday in Budapest on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Technological University of Budapest, Péter Márki-Zay said that "we believe that power belongs to the people, that David will defeat Goliath. We believe that on April 3, Hungary will return to the right side of history, that Hungary will finally be victorious, that we will once again be a people, that we will once again be a nation, that we will once again be proud to say, wherever we go in the world, that I am Hungarian".
He asked opposition supporters that each them convince three more people to vote for him, so that they could replace "the most corrupt government in Hungary's history" with a two-thirds majority. He noted that he believes in miracles and he is not saddened by polls standings because he is a politician who has never won a poll but has never lost an election.
According to Péter Márki-Zay, Hungary is no longer one nation to the world, but one face, because "one man has us expropriated." As the audience chanted "Orbán, get out!", the opposition politician continued that Hungarians are being judged because of this face, a man who turns this way and that, "playing his petty games" on the world's political stage, who is responsible for the fact that, unlike in 1848, more and more people are now ashamed of being Hungarian.
He also stressed that if the power of love overcomes the love of power, then many of the hundreds of thousands of Hungarians who are still seeking their fortunes in the West will return home to raise their children as Hungarians.
In the April elections, "we must vote to be one people again" and not "outsiders in our own country", he said.
The guest speaker of the opposition rally, Donald Tusk, the Polish President of the European People's Party, said that today the fight is not only for the freedom of the Ukrainian state and nation, but also "for our future," and that in this fight, a decent and honest man should have no doubt which side he is on.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin's vision of a state is authoritarian, censoring, corrupt, a cult of force instead of law and order, and it should not be believed that capitulation to the Russian President is the key to security. In his view, the only way to resist aggression is to succeed in removing from power politicians throughout Europe who preach capitulation.
