In January–July 2020, the number of births was 4.9% more and that of deaths 5.1% less than in the corresponding period of 2019 according to preliminary data reported by the Central Statistical Office.
As a result, the natural decrease declined by 23% or 6,480 compared to January–July 2019. In July 2020, the number of live births increased by 1.7% and that of deaths went down by 6.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. The natural decrease of 913 in July was 45% lower than a year earlier.
In July 2020, 8,523 children were born, which was 145 or 1.7% more than in July 2019; 9,436 people lost their lives, which was 614 fewer or 6.1% less than a year earlier;
Due to the decline in the number of deaths and the rise in the number of births, the natural decrease over the month was 913 as opposed to 1,672 in July 2019, which was a decrease of 45%.
In July 2020, the number of marriages went down; 7,544 couples got married, 6.8% less or 547 fewer compared to July 2019.
