In July 2022, 8,113 children were born and 10,320 people died in Hungary according to preliminary data. In the last twelve months, i.e. between August 2021 and July 2022, the number of births diminished by 1.2%, that of deaths by 8.8% and the number of marriages by 7.9% compared to the period one year earlier, the country's Central Statistical Office reports.
In July 2022:
A total of 8,113 children were born, 2.0% less or 167 fewer than a year earlier.
10,320 people lost their lives, 0.7% less or 68 fewer than in July 2021.
The natural decrease was 2,207, as opposed to 2,108 in July 2021.
7,976 couples got married, which was 17% less or 1,624 fewer than in July 2021.
Between August 2021 and July 2022:
90,670 children were born in the last twelve months, 1.2% less or 1,141 fewer than in the previous twelve months. 4.5% less children were born in January–July this year, within which the number of births went down by 11% in January–April and by 2.0% in July and increased by 6.0% in May–June compared to the same period of 2021.
The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.56 per female, which was the same as the value calculated for the previous twelve months.
There were 143,970 deaths, 8.8% less or 13,832 fewer than in the previous twelve months. The number of deaths fell by 13% in January–July this year, within which it was lower in all months except February than in the corresponding period of the previous year, to the highest extent in March–April, by 29%.
The number of births diminished to a lower extent than that of deaths, as a result of which the natural decrease was 53,300, which was a fall of 19% compared to the value of 65,991 in the previous twelve months.
68,336 couples got married, 7.9% less or 5,858 fewer than in the previous twelve months. There were 8.9% less marriages in January–July this year, within which 10% less marriages were registered in January–April, 13% less in June–July and 3.6% more in May than in the same months of 2021.
There were 9.4 live births and 14.9 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was 0.1 per mille point and that of deaths 1.4 per mille points lower than in August 2020–July 2021, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease was down by 1.3 per mille points to 5.5 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.2 per thousand live births, which was approximately the same as the value for the previous twelve months. The marriage rate was 7.1 per mille, 0.6 per mille point lower than in the period a year earlier.
