Semmelweis University (SE) and Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Sciences (MOME), both of the Hungarian capital, have signed a cooperation agreement on the launch of joint research and development projects, the medical higher education institution announced on Friday.
The statement quoted SE rector Béla Merkely as saying that thanks to the translational approach of the university, the results of the cooperation will be useful at the patient's bedside as soon as possible.
The Rector emphasized that Semmelweis University, as a leading knowledge center in Central and Eastern Europe, plays a unique role in the fields of education, patient care, research and innovation. "We always apply the latest findings and state-of-the-art technologies in both patient care and education. Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, as an inescapable player in the Hungarian creative and design industry, also places great emphasis on materials research, among other things. New materials and related technologies can also be extremely useful for medicine. The aim of the joint work we are now starting is to ensure that they will be," Béla Merkely said.
Quoting József Fülöp, Rector of MOME, the announcement said that "our task is to provide design-based solutions, including innovations in materials research, ergonomic design of instruments and medical devices, and a holistic approach to the challenges of the age, to shape the future and to explore the humanization of technologies to explore where in health promotion and patient care there are opportunities for healers and designers to work together. This agreement is the first big step in that process".
According to the statement, the University of the Arts has a team of around 30 people working on the R&D projects. Their main goal is to put design at the heart of the process and to bring it closer to different industries, and in this, healthcare is a very important priority area for them, they explained.
