The MOME Mobility Design Lab, one of the most advanced vehicle design workshops in the region, was opened this Friday at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), in the presence of Mercedes-Benz Chief Designer Gorden Wagener.
MOME aims to be the best and most exciting university in the Baltic to Balkan region, said the President of the University Foundation, Gergely Böszörményi-Nagy at the opening ceremony of the Mobility Design Lab.
He added that "the Hungarian economy has already proven its manufacturing capabilities in recent years, including in the automotive sector, but Hungary can do more. Our goal is to ensure that, in addition to the dynamic expansion of manufacturing capacities, creativity, design and product design also emerge more strongly as an added value.”
The opening also celebrated 20 years of cooperation between MOME and Mercedes-Benz.
Chief Designer Gorden Wagener recalled that it was just twenty years ago that he first visited the university, which was then like a ‘start-up garage’. “Since then, MOME has been completely renewed, with new buildings and has moved up a level," he noted.
The event also showcased the most outstanding achievements of the MOME's Vehicle Design program over the past five years, and the German expert praised the students for their attention to digital design. This is very important as the future will be digital, he said.
Gorden Wagener added that Mercedes-Benz is proud of its cooperation with the MOME over the past twenty years and that this joint thinking will continue in the future.
Péter Molnár, Head of the MOME Design Institute, said that the newly opened workshop will explore the future of mobility: in addition to cars, students will work on the creation of drones, engines, boats and other vehicles, as well as user experience design.
In addition to traditional clay modelling, the new workshop will allow students to visualize their developments using cutting-edge tools such as augmented and virtual reality (AR and VR) technologies.
