Three-time Olympic champion swimmer Katinka Hosszú and 20-year-old footballer Dominik Szoboszlai, who plays for the RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga, are tied for the most valuable Hungarian sportsperson of the year in Forbes magazine's list.
Hosszú has long been a top sportsperson while Szoboszlai's good play and a winning goal against Iceland helped the Hungarian national team qualify for this year's European Championship, although the midfielder was unable to play at the tournament due to injury.
Two other football (soccer) players were also in the top five: Péter Gulácsi (4th), also from Leipzig, and Attila Szalai (5th), a defender from Turkish side Fenerbahçe.
Third-placed on the list is swimmer Kristóf Milák while the others in the Top Ten are swimmer Boglárka Kapás, footballer Orbán Willi, tennis player Márton Fucsovics, swimmer László Cseh and speed skaters Liu Shaoang and Sándor Liu Shaolin.
According to Forbes, it is spectacular how handball or water polo have dropped down the list. According to the magazine, Instagram has clearly taken the place of pre-match press conferences during lockouts. And the epidemic situation has also shown the value of sportsmen and sportswomen expressing themselves on social and public issues.
