Lando Norris Wins 41st Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix

McLaren driver Lando Norris, the reigning world champion, won the 41st Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday at the Hungaroring, in Mogyoród, just east of Budapest.

The 26-year-old, starting from pole position, secured his first win of the season and the 12th of his career. This was his second victory at the Hungaroring following last year's triumph.

Max Verstappen, the four-time world champion and Red Bull driver, finished second, while Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the 19-year-old Mercedes driver leading the championship, took third place. With Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) and his Mercedes teammate George Russell finishing behind Antonelli, the championship leader extended his points advantage.

A total of 310,000 spectators visited the Hungaroring during the 41st Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, setting a record in the track’s history.

The award to the winner, a porcelain trophy from Herend, was presented by Prime Minister Péter Magyar.

At the track, the prime minister met with several officials, including Stefano Domenicali, Chairman-CEO of Formula 1. After the discussion, Péter Magyar said that "it is remarkable that Hungaroring has been operating continuously for forty years to everyone's satisfaction."

He added that "we have a contract with Liberty Media [for organizing the Hungarian F1 GP] until 2032... Everyone is satisfied because a record number of spectators attended this weekend... We discussed how this could be further developed because both F1 and Liberty are working to extend these three- or four-day events even further so that countries can make the most of the potential of the series from both an economic and a tourism perspective." Formula 1 will resume after a near one-month break with the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.
