20-year-old Hungarian international Dominik Szoboszlai leaves FC Red Bull Salzburg, the current Austrian champions for a transfer fee of EUR 20 million and signs a four-and-a-half-year contract (until June 2025) with German first division (Bundesliga) side RB Leipzig.
His new club describes Szoboszlai as a technical midfielder, who also knows how to find the back of the net. He is a versatile player but operates most commonly in the center of midfield or on the left-hand side. In addition to his vision and passing ability, the Hungarian international is a great striker of the ball.
Szoboszlai made his debut for the Hungarian national team in March 2019 and has gone on to record 12 international caps (with three goals) for his country. In the current season, the midfielder has made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and registering ten assists. Analysts note that his progress is being tremendous in 2020. He is the player who has created the most occasions of goal for his teammates in Europe this season.
The player himself said about his new club that it "has undergone a sensational evolution, it is among the best in the Bundesliga and is causing a buzz in the Champions League." Szoboszlai also underlined the importance of coach Julian Nagelsmann in choosing RB Leipzig. "I join a top coach and a most ambitious team, which is young, but already has a lot of experience." In RB Leipzig, he joins two other Hungarian internationals: goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi and nationalized defender Willy Orban.
Szoboszlai signed for Salzburg on January 16, 2018 and his current contract would have ended on June 30, 2022. According to Transfermarkt, he is valued at EUR 25 million. The Austrian side retains the right to receive 20% of his next transfer for another club for which there is a good chance as Spanish giants Real Madrid also shows interest in him.
