Gáspár Csere, the athlete of the Budapest club BEAC won the half marathon on Sunday at the 36th Telekom Vivicittá running festival.

Csere won the 21.1-kilometer race, the longest distance run at the traditional Budapest event, for the third time after 2011 and 2016. Julianna Nagy of Margitszigeti AC won the women's race.

Although the average number of participants in the previous five Vivicittas was 29,000, this year, the coronavirus epidemic meant that schoolchildren and people from abroad were absent, so the 8,000 or so participants were almost an all-Hungarian field.

Due to renovations in the capital, the route did not include the Pest quay and the Chain Bridge, so the half marathon was held on the Buda side of the city.
