The Budapest Business School (BGE) is the only Hungarian university to be included in the latest program of the UN-backed sustainability initiative PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education), and has been awarded the title of PRME Champion, the institution has announced.
As part of the program, BGE will work with 47 business universities around the world on projects to develop responsible business education in the future.
"As a responsible university, BGE strives to operate sustainably, promote social mobility, equal opportunities for students, and support active community life and healthy lifestyles. The university joined the PRME network in 2017," the announcement said.
The Principles for Responsible Management Education is a United Nations-supported initiative founded in 2007. As a platform to raise the profile of sustainability in schools around the world, PRME equips today's business students with the understanding and ability to deliver change tomorrow.
This year, BGE was the only higher education institution in Hungary among many applicants to be selected as a PRME Champion by the UN PRME Secretariat, together with 47 business universities. The PRME Champions – business universities around the world committed to sustainability – aim to lead the development of management education in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the BGE statement explained.
The communiqué quoted BGE Rector Balázs Heidrich as saying that they are consciously working with their community to contribute to a sustainable future. Among other things, by ensuring that all their students complete the course ‘Responsible and Sustainable Enterprise’. "Being awarded the title of PRME Champion and participating in the program is both an honor and a responsibility, as well as recognition of the successful work of the past years," the Rector said.
