Dunapack Packaging's corrugated packaging solutions are made from nearly 90% recycled material and are recycled to the same extent, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
It was pointed out that the recycling rate in the European paper sector is 71.4%, with the corrugated sector standing out as a leader in the implementation of the circular economy.
Dunapack Ltd. Cluster Managing Director Dennis Belkovsky said in the statement that the corrugated industry has by far the highest percentage of products in the packaging sector in the EU that remain in the circular cycle, with a 90% recycling rate and an average recycled content of 89%.
“We need to think about products such as the corrugated boxes we pick up on store shelves or in which technical goods, furniture and other consumer durables arrive at our homes," he explained.
In practice, recycling in Hungary is carried out by, among others, one of Dunapack Packaging's sister companies, Hamburger Recycling Hungary Ltd., which collects the paper waste generated here, and its other sister company, Hamburger Hungária Ltd., which produces 700,000 tons of corrugated waste paper from this waste – plus imports - every year, he explained.
He also pointed out that Hamburger Hungária's Dunaújváros mill can only cover 45% of its production from domestic waste paper, the rest is imported. While companies now collect and recycle most of their paper waste, there is still great potential in household selective collection, he added.
