The National Bank of Hungary (MNB) is announcing the Green Financial Science Talent Award, the International Green Financial Science Lifetime Achievement Award and the Green Financial Science Research Initiative for the third time, the central bank told MTI on Tuesday.

The call was launched to promote environmental sustainability and recognize outstanding green finance research achievements. The initiative is based on the recognition that the role of the financial system and the central bank is crucial in the context of environmental sustainability and business decisions, the MNB website said.

According to the announcement, the Green Finance Science Talent Award is open to Hungarian professionals under 41 years of age for outstanding green finance research. Last year, László Vértesy, Associate Professor at the Department of Finance of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, received the award for his publications on financial law and the circular economy.

The call for proposals for the Green Finance Academic Research Initiative is open to research proposals that formulate a scientifically rigorous research agenda in the field of green finance. Research proposals may be submitted by a researcher of Hungarian nationality, an institution with legal personality based in Hungary or a research team of several researchers of Hungarian nationality without legal personality. Last year, the 1st prize was awarded to the Center for Circular Economy Analysis and Knowledge of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences (MATE) for its research project on the financial preparedness of agro-food companies. The International Green Finance Lifetime Achievement Award is given to non-Hungarian professionals for their internationally significant research contributions to the development of green finance research and implementation of sustainable management. In 2022, the award was presented to Sean Kidney, co-founder and CEO of the Climate Bonds Initiative, which promotes the building of a sustainable economy.
