Premium tire manufacturer Hankook has published its ESG (Environmental Social Governance) report for 2022/23, in which the company reports on its sustainability measures and strategies for this year. As an assurance, the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has recognised Hankook's greenhouse gas reduction targets. These are expected to achieve zero emissions by 2050 based on the SBTi net-zero emissions benchmark.

The ESG report, published for the 14th time, is based on the "Innovation for a Sustainable Future" system introduced by the company in 2010 and covers all sustainability activities of the company. It also includes the company's medium and long-term vision for the environment, social issues and corporate governance. The focus is evenly distributed between the three priority areas: the ecological value chain, sustainable products and responsible citizenship.

Hankook has been systematically increasing its efforts in sustainable management, starting with the strengthening of its ESG management system. In 2009, the company established its Corporate Social Responsibility Organization, and a year later, the ESG Strategy and Steering Committee. In 2021, the tyre manufacturer set up an ESG decision-making body within its Board of Directors. In 2022, Hankook unveiled its Corporate Governance Charter, which serves as a basis for sustainable management and expresses the company's commitment to transparent and ethical ESG practices.

By reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Hankook has become a leader in creating an ecological value chain. The company has developed a systemic strategy to combat climate change and has integrated the Climate Change Committee into its management activities. In addition, Hankook is pursuing a number of energy-saving measures. Among other things, the company has optimised its energy consumption by introducing high-efficiency equipment and by increasingly using renewable energy sources. As a result, the greenhouse gas intensity has decreased by 2.74%.
