Within three years, the Market group will be the first in the construction industry in Hungary to switch to sustainable corporate operations, which, according to plans, will reduce direct and indirect costs by 30% within two years compared to 2019 emissions of greenhouse gases. This is revealed in the second voluntary sustainability report of the construction industry company, which consists of 11 member companies and employs nearly 1,400 people.
According to the announcement on Wednesday by the company with an annual turnover of more than HUF 300 billion, the construction industry is one of the most burdensome areas globally, responsible for around 40% of carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, the companies operating in this sector have a great responsibility in shaping a more livable future. In Hungary, two years ago, Market was the first in the industry to decide that the environmental, economic and social principles of sustainability in the strategy have priority in decision-making as well as in the operational day-to-day work, Sándor Scheer, CEO of Market Építő Plc. highlighted in the announcement. He added that in accordance with this direction and in response to market conditions, last year they decided to establish stone wool thermal insulation factories operating with a sustainable method.
In addition, the review of the production process of prefabricated elements and the use of construction materials at the company also began this year. The aim of this is to introduce alternative, sustainable solutions on construction sites by 2025, where possible. And they will make a special effort to recycle 50% of the waste generated during the demolition work by then. In addition, in order to protect biological diversity, twice the number of trees requested by the customers will be planted at the company's own expense.
The second sustainability report of the Market Group also reveals that within three years they want to double the number of female managers compared to the situation in 2020, as well as taking decisive measures to permanently eliminate the gender pay gap at the company.
They announced that the transformation of the vehicle fleet is currently taking place, and in addition to making their own operations sustainable, they are also trying to involve their customers in learning about and applying sustainable architectural solutions.
