More pure electric cars than ever before were put into service in February: last month, 2,124 pure electric vehicles received green license plates in Hungary, breaking the all-time record for monthly registrations, which was held until now by March 2024 with 2,108 units, the Ministry of Energy said on Tuesday.
According to the information, the beginning of last spring was the first time that the monthly number exceeded 2,000, and since then, there have been three other occasions, with February this year and July and September 2024 (with 2,072 units in each month).
Last month's gain in pure electric passenger cars was the third highest ever at 1,943 units. Only last September (1,968) and March (1,962) showed a better figure.
According to the Road Transport Register, several milestones are expected to be reached in March: the number of pure electric vehicles is expected to rise to over 75,000, the number of cars with electric drive only will exceed 70,000, and the total number of green plates (including those of hybrids) will exceed 120,000.
The domestic green car fleet has increased more than nine-fold since the beginning of 2020. Growth has picked up spectacularly in the past year, thanks in part to the corporate e-car program, the statement said.
