Up to 150 high value-added jobs will be created by Nokia Solutions and Networks Ltd. at their Budapest R&D center to conduct research on 5G technology. The program will cost EUR 6.8 million (over a quarter of which is covered by Hungarian taxpayers according to a government decision, and promises to trigger the development of ever more disruptive solutions.
Part of the portfolio of leading global telco giant Nokia is the renowned Nokia Bell Labs that has been commissioned, among others, to improve the 5G network. Nokia Bell Labs’ Hungarian unit is located in one of Hungary’s largest IT and telco R&D centers, the Budapest-based Nokia Skypark. Opened back in 2017, Nokia Skypark also hosts the company’s Global Technology Center.
Nokia Bell Labs’ Hungarian R&D team conducts base research, and its multiyear performance was crowned in November 2021 when it received the “5G Award for most innovative machine learning software product”. Accordingly, another domestically developed disruptive solution hit global markets that, in fact, Vodafone plans to use all over Europe.
Now Nokia invests even more in brains. The current R&D project widens the range of services offered by 5G mobile networks. Experts are expected to develop software components and system level solutions that help simplify installation and operation of mobile networks a great deal.
“Our company develops technology that facilitates efficient human to human cooperation, which is actually more of machine-to-machine cooperation by now. We search for the best talent for this kind of work everywhere. Based on our multiyear experience, Hungary is a place where we can find a lot of such highly skilled and motivated candidates. Therefore, in the past years we didn’t only manage to hire more staff but also ever more Nokia organizations have settled in the Hungarian capital,” Nokia Hungary Country Manager Béla Zagyva said.
New solutions offered by the company to mobile operators and corporations also allow for the fully automated establishment and operation of tailor-made, accessory or independent mobile core networks. Development shall include architect design, software development, integration as well as testing, the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency reports.
