In the Sziget Festival's area of just over one square kilometer, Yettel has built a network that can serve up to 60-80,000 people at the same time, the telecommunications partner of the event announced on the occasion of the opening of the festival.
One of Europe's largest light music and cultural events attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Such high-profile events require the strengthening of the mobile network so that even tens of thousands of people can make phone calls and surf the Internet at the same time. During the next six days, the data traffic of the festival complicates the traffic of almost 35 average base stations operating in Budapest, and the stations handle a total of twenty-five times as much data traffic as on an average weekday in Budapest.
Yettel specialists installed six new mobile base stations to strengthen the network of the festival in the most popular locations, such as the area in front of the main stage.
Yettel stated that intermittent signal amplification is a very expensive operation that does not pay for itself in a week. They also informed that almost 30 people work on the preparation and construction of the network for several weeks, from planning to implementation, and their specialists supervise the operation of the mobile network during the entire duration of the festival.
The service provider states that, thanks to its international partners, VoLTE roaming is already available in 80 countries, which significantly increases the capacity of the network thanks to the voice traffic diverted to 4G, so that it can handle significantly more simultaneous phone calls. Guests arriving from abroad can use VoLTE roaming on the island.
