The number of guests at commercial and private tourism accommodations in Hungary rose by 4.6% to 1,068,000 in February from the same month a year earlier, while the number of guest nights climbed 5.2% to 2,438,000, data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Thursday show.
The number of domestic guests rose by 4.9% to 509,000 and the number of foreign visitors climbed 4.2% to 559,000. The number of guest nights spent by domestic travellers increased by 6.6% to 1,077,000, while guest nights spent by foreign visitors rose by 4.2% to 1,361,000.
Visitors from Italy accounted for the largest number of guest nights: 110,000. Visitors from the UK spent 108,000 guest nights and visitors from the Germany 98,000. Guest nights spent by travellers from Asia fell by 5.0% to 163,000.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, hotels received 87% of the arrivals and this number was 5.4% higher than a year earlier. The number of foreign tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation establishments was 1.4% lower than in February 2025. Compared to the same month last year, the number of international arrivals increased the most in Greater Budapest (by 15%) and fell the most in the Tokaj and Nyíregyháza region (by 7.7%). The number of international arrivals to tourist accommodation was 6.3% higher in Budapest and 4.2% higher at Lake Balaton.
Gross revenue of tourism accommodations rose 3.3% to HUF 61.8 billion. A total of 18,035 tourism accommodations hosted guests in February, including 15,977 private and other accommodations.
In January-February 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year, tourist accommodation establishments recorded a total of 2.1 million arrivals, up by 4.9%. Also annually, the number of domestic and international arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments increased by 4.7% and 5.1%, reaching 1.0 million and 1.1 million respectively.
