In November 2022, 691,000 guests spent 1.7 million tourism nights in commercial accommodation establishments (hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalow complexes and community hostels). The number of guests rose by 17% and that of nights by 7.8% compared to the same period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Office reports.
Compared to November 2021, the number of nights spent by domestic guests increased by 1.6% and that of nights spent by foreign guests increased by 15%. In January–November 2022, domestic guests spent 19% more tourism nights and foreign guests more than twice as many tourism nights, 114% more than in the same period of the previous year.
In November 2022:
The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew by 10% and that of tourism nights by 1.6% compared to same month of previous year. The former was 380,000 and the latter 856,000. 76% of the nights were spent at hotels, where the number of tourism nights was 5.8% higher than a year earlier. Turnover was down 8.0% in boarding houses and up 7.6% in community hostels compared with November 2021. The two most popular tourist regions, the Budapest–Central Danube Region and Lake Balaton, recorded 23% and 21% of domestic tourism nights respectively.
International tourist arrivals increased by 27% and tourism nights by 15% compared to same month of previous year. A total of 311,000 guests stayed in accommodation establishments for 842,000 nights. 83% of these nights were spent in hotels, where the number of nights spent increased by 14% compared to November 2021. The most popular tourism region was the Budapest–Central Danube Region, where 63% of international tourism nights were registered.
Total gross sales revenues were HUF 35 billion, 35% higher than the previous year at current prices.
Cardholders paid 10% more, HUF 2.2 billion, with their Széchenyi Recreation Cards in commercial accommodation.
In November 2022:
2,075 commercial accommodation establishments, including 842 hotels and 928 boarding houses, were open for part or all of the month.
Total tourism nights spent were split 50-50 between domestic and foreign guests.
In January–November 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year:
The number of tourism nights spent in commercial accommodation increased by 46% to nearly 25 million. Domestic guests spent 19% more tourism nights in commercial accommodation and foreign guests more than twice as many, 114% more (14 million and 10 million respectively).
Total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation at current prices increased by 70% to HUF 421 billion.
