Long Weekend: Lake Balaton Frequented by Travelers

One in three travellers will be relaxing on Lake Balaton on August 20. Siófok, Hajdúszoboszló, Hévíz, Eger and Szeged attract the most guests during the four-day long weekend, according to the accommodation portal Szallas.hu. Almost half of the bookings are for three nights, accounting for roughly half of the total number of nights for the long weekend.

Many people time their trip for the four-day long weekend on the 20th of August. According to Szallas.hu booking data, a third of guests are staying at Lake Balaton on the occasion of the Statehood Day. Nearly 18% of the bookings chose settlements in the North-Hungarian region, while 11% chose the Southern Great Plain. In terms of the number of bookings, Siófok, Hajdúszoboszló and Hévíz top the list of the most popular domestic destinations. Eger, Szeged, Gyula, Balatonfüred, Pécs, Zalakaros and Keszthely follow in the top ten.

Travelers are taking advantage of the four-day long weekend. Almost half of bookings are for three nights, a quarter for two nights. "This year we have more four-night reservations for the long weekend than one-night reservations," Szallas.hu's press officer Lili Kelemen said. One out of three reservations was for an apartment and one out of four for a guesthouse or hotel. 12% of guests who booked a bed and breakfast on Szallas.hu and 6% booked other accommodation. 28% of all bookings were for spa accommodation. "Some accommodation providers add extra services to their package offers at this time of the year," the press spokesperson explained. "It's common to offer a welcome drink, champagne at dinner, musical entertainment and of course they don't forget about the children," she added.
