Hungarian retail sales went into the red. The turnover of grocery stores also increased only moderately. However, online stores surge.
In November 2020, the volume of sales in retail shops decreased by 0.3% according to raw data and by 0.8% when adjusted for calendar effects compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the latest data published by the country's Central Statistical Office.
The seasonally and calendar-adjusted volume of sales in retail shops increased by 1.1% compared to the previous month. In November 2020, the volume of sales, adjusted for calendar effects, increased by 1.8% in specialized and non-specialized food shops and decreased by 1.0% in non-food retail shops and by 9.4% in automotive fuel retailing. In January-November 2020, the volume of sales – also according to calendar adjusted data – was 0.2% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
