In parallel with the relaxation of restrictions introduced at European level in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the number of routes is increasing as Easter and the high season approach, offering more travel options from Hungary. The summer timetable is also expanding, with holiday flights connecting Budapest to the Adriatic. Meanwhile, FlixBus continues its global expansion, developing its overseas network and launching services in Canada.
Increasing frequency, direct connections to the coast
In April, passengers will be able to choose from up to 15 daily departures between Budapest and Vienna. In Vienna and its surroundings, passengers travelling from Budapest will have direct access to four stops: in addition to two city stations – Vienna Erdberg and Vienna Main Station – FlixBus will also offer direct connections to Vienna Airport and the Designer Outlet Center in Parndorf.
There are also daily long-distance buses from Budapest to Zagreb. Direct coach connections to Croatian coastal destinations will be available from Budapest from 17 June 2022. Holidaymakers can travel to the Adriatic with overnight connections every Friday and Sunday during the season. On the return journey, buses will depart from Split on Saturdays and Mondays.
As Zsófia Toropila-Vakula, Business Development and Operations Manager of FlixBus in Hungary, said, "we are pleased to see that the demand for travel is growing again, people are open to plan ahead. FlixBus is constantly monitoring demand and is expanding its network and opening up booking opportunities for the summer months in line with this growth. We believe that after the challenges of the past years, providing affordable and sustainable public transport connections has become even more important to keep people mobile."
In addition to the surrounding major cities, the bus operator operates connections from Hungary to a number of European countries further afield. Direct Green Bus services are available to cities in Germany, such as Munich, Berlin and Ingolsdtad; in Romania, to several Transylvanian cities, such as Târgu Mures and Cluj-Napoca; and to cities in Italy, Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
FlixBus global expansion continues in Canada
In addition to the development of its European network, the green mobility company continues to grow globally. FlixBus launched its service in the US in 2018 and has long planned to enter the Canadian market, but due to the outbreak of pandemic COVID-19, this has not yet materialised. Locals will be able to travel on FlixBus services from 7 April 2022. The service will connect cities in Ontario, initially with services from Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara Falls, St. Catherines, Waterloo, Kitchener, Guelph and Mississauga. FlixBus will also work with local partners in Canada. The currently available domestic network is operated by Gallexy Tours, a company that has primarily provided charter services in the Toronto area for the past 20 years. The buses meet the company's international standards. FlixBus also plans to launch international services between the US and Canada in 2022.
