Rail Cargo Logistics - Hungaria and Slovenian Railways (SŽ-Tovorni promet d. o. o.) have signed a cooperation agreement in the field of single-carriage transport, on the basis of which the two companies will speed up the issuing of offers in bilateral relations, Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) Plc. told MTI on Wednesday.
According to the release, state subsidies in both countries will help maintain rail transport of scattered and groupage consignments. These traffic flows are the most labor-intensive and the least profitable, due to short transport distances and the need for a linked service palette. Under the agreement signed on Wednesday, the two companies will speed up the issuing of tenders in bilateral relations.
It was also announced that in Hungary, state subsidies have helped to maintain single-car transport since 2021. Railway companies can apply for subsidies of HUF 6.4 billion per year. A total of nine railway companies currently offer this service. The subsidy is in high demand, with companies having exhausted their 2024 budget before the end of the year. Only RCH provides national coverage, while it also handles the bulk of the traffic, they said.
In Hungary, this complex railway technology allows 700 nationally important companies to access their raw materials and market their goods, and for them, this transport solution is the security of their logistics supply. The aid is due to expire soon. Maintaining and paying the subsidy for another five-year period starting in 2026 is crucial, they said.
