Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) has already transported one million tons of Ukrainian grain this year, the rail freight company told the state news agency MTI on Wednesday.
The share of grain consignments, consisting of 80% maize, in the freight traffic from Ukraine has increased from 2% last year to 30%, they added.
According to the information, two-thirds of the Ukrainian grain, which arrived in more than 17,000 wagons, went to the premises of Hungarian customers, while the rest went to grain warehouses in Italy and Austria.
It was stressed that the Rail Cargo group, of which RCH is a member, has given priority to the transport of food consignments from Ukraine, mainly maize, sunflower seeds, wheat, soya, barley and vegetable oil, since the outbreak of the war. The company's previous freight traffic with Ukraine has increased to the order of 100,000 tons per month since the second third of the year. Half of the goods entering the country are iron ore, with the second largest items being grain and oilseeds. It was pointed out that RCH has also developed innovative technological solutions and alternative transport projects to increase the volume of consignments. Once again, it has started to apply its previous technology of reassembling the axles of rail freight wagons to speed up transport.
