The Hungarian Wine Academy (MBA) has named József Lamport, chief winemaker at the Thummerer Winery in Noszvaj since 2004, as its Winemaker of the Year in Hungary, the MBA announced to MTI on Friday.
As a winemaker in the Eger Wine Region, József Lamport played an active role in creating Egri Csillag, the white counterpart to Bikavér, and his professional expertise has helped the winery win countless domestic and international awards, according to the award description.
The title of Winemaker of the Year in Hungary is not an award for the excellent quality of a single wine, but is given to the award-winning winemaker for their outstanding performance over several years, the consistently high quality of their wines, and their domestic and international success.
This is the most prestigious domestic award that Hungarian winemakers can receive, and it was first presented in 1991, according to the MBA website.
